Alright kids, where's the SPN Batman AU? Where John = Bruce, Dean = Dick, and Sam = Tim and John is deep undercover busting some gang, but can't tell the boys where he is, so they have to go bust up the rest of the criminal gangs and supervillain nutjobs while he's away? I mean, come on, people: they've already got a Batmobile car with a hidden weapons compartment.

Man, the clock's moving slowly today. In honor of that, here is a tale of WTFery involving me and a credit union.

circa September 2000
Drew opens a savings account with the credit union based on campus at his college (Old Credit Union). Drew gets a credit card and eventually a checking account as well. The credit union is local, which is convenient while on-campus and asstastic while at home, but since Drew is mostly on campus, this is not really a big issue.

circa July 2004
Drew moves 3000 miles away from his college. The previously-mentioned convenience ceases to be so. Having the account is nice for being able to do things like buy furniture at IKEA, but the maintenance of such an account must be done online or by mail, and customer service is not so helpful.

circa August 2004
Drew opens an account with a credit union close to him (New Credit Union), allowing for direct deposit and a whole host of other wonderful things, plus local branches for banking helpfulness. He decides to wait a few months, then close the account at the other credit union.

circa October 2004
Drew starts contacting customer service at Old Credit Union to try and find out how to close his account. He knows this can be done by mail, since there's a federal law about it, but extracting the relevant information from Old Credit Union is impossible -- their hours are minimal, their website impenetrable, and their email addresses bounce back. Drew loses hope.

October 2004-November 2005
On and off, Drew tries to contact Old Credit Union, to no avail. Some of it is his fault -- good intentions to call that are thwarted by his own forgetfulness, but much of it is technical on the credit union's side. Hope for money retrieval is at an all-time low.

today
Drew decides "Ahh, fuck it. I'm going to try this again, because I want my (small amount of) money that's still in that account." Drew searches for the contact form on the website, types in his query and sends it off. Fifteen minutes later, a reply with the requisite form is in his inbox. Drew is, needless to say, perplexed.

The form asks for his member number, which Drew cannot, for the life of him, remember. He wonders if it's related to his account number, and hopes like a hopeful thing that all of this information is in the mass of paperwork he has at home.

He also reads in the email that administration of Old Credit Union's credit cards has moved to MNBA, so he has an 800-number to call and see what can be done. Will our hero succeed in his quest to close his mostly-defunct accounts? Stay tuned for the adventures of Drew in Credit-Land!
