Last Verdi rehearsal was last night; tonight we open. This show is going to kick so much ass. [livejournal.com profile] bexone, [livejournal.com profile] lovelypoet - if you can get rush tickets, you might seriously consider going to this. I have never in my entire life heard a better mezzo-soprano than we have singing this show, and her duet with the soprano in the "Recordare" is just tear-inducing. Okay, let me put it this way: the chorus sits behind and above all the instrumentalists, and the soloists are in *front* of the instrumentalists, just behind the conductor. The soloists are facing away from the chorus (as you'd expect), and they're singing to this huge hall, and the mezzo-soprano still sounds like she's right next to you. Her range is phenomenal -- the mezzo part goes up to a high A-flat and down to at least the A below the staff (a full two octaves), strong all the way; I'm not sure if it goes further or not. Her low notes are super-strong, to the point of sounding *masculine*, and she's just. I get all flappy and melty when she sings. Nnngh. As I said to one of our professional choristers (who agreed with me), you're capable of envy when someone is a certain amount better than you at something. But when you get to a certain point, they're just SO much better than you are that you just kind of sit there in awe. That's me and this mezzo.

Okay, enough about that. From the sounds in the office next to mine, I suspect I have gotten a new coworker. Well, I say "coworker", but my coworkers and I don't do the same projects, so we have virtually no interaction except seeing one another in the hall or at the deli. Coworker A is, I think, headed off to grad school this fall, necessitating his replacement. I wonder if I'll even *meet* the new guy (I can tell it's a guy by his voice). Maybe he's the somewhat cute blond I saw in the hall this morning?

In other news, my eyes (or eyelids; I can't tell) have started twitching intermittently. This cannot be a good sign, right? As soon as I'm not in work/rehearsal/sleep mode exclusively, I'm going to make a doctor's appointment. Though if it is, as I suspect, stress-caused, perhaps no longer being in work/rehearsal/sleep mode will help.

I placed my Threadless order yesterday. They were out of my size for the "cowboys suck" t-shirt, so I got the next size up; if it's too big, FRE will help me modify it smaller. She's handy like that with a sewing machine. I also got the shirt that says "procrastinators: leaders of tomorrow" because I *needed* to own that shirt.
