i'm a pixel here, myself

I appear to be purchasing a Nikon D40 today. Huh. My family's going on a trip to Alaska in June, so I figured I'd better get with the program and get a camera that takes better, faster pictures than my current point-and-shoot, which I've had for a while. I've always been amazed at the image quality differences between SLRs and point-and-shoots, and now that I'm past the holiday season, I have some disposable income and figured I should get whatever camera I'm going to get NOW as opposed to, say, the week before the trip. The D40 is the low end of the DSLR spectrum, but I wasn't going to blow several thousand dollars on a camera that's way too powerful for me. I figure the couple months between now and June will give me enough time to get acquainted with it, and if I decide I'd rather have a higher-end body, I can sell the D40 and buy up the chain. But I suspect it'll be more than fine for what I'm likely to do.

Also, I called in sick today because I was just so *tired* when I woke up. And now I feel fine and kind of lame for calling in. But it was nice to have a day off, especially since I don't get a holiday until Memorial Day. Whee.
