1. Rolling Stone, of all publications, has one of the scariest articles I've ever read about McCain. It's called [Make-Believe Maverick], and while it's way, way, way partisan in its tone, it is also factually correct. And the facts should scare the bejeezus out of you. John McCain is not necessarily the war hero or maverick you may think of him as.
2. The New Yorker had a panel several days ago called "If I Were Running This Campaign", and at the end, Donna Brazile (who ran Al Gore's 2000 campaign) delivered a particularly stirring [speech] about race and this electoral season.
3. Statewide polling shows Prop 8 poised to pass, which I find frankly unbelievable. This is due in large part, apparently, to an ad that features Gavin Newsom telling the truth: that equal marriage rights for gay people are not going away. We will not simply fade into the background smiling as our freedom to marry is stamped out. The increasingly vile Yes On 8 ads play into the worst of peoples' xenophobia, attempting to shake parents by the shoulders and say "is this what you want for your children?! won't someone think of the children?!?!?!?!" and then some asshole law prof from Pepperdine cites a Massachusetts court case. If you or anyone you know lives in California, please, please, please, urge them to vote No on Prop 8, and if at all possible, donate money to No On Prop 8, Equality California, Freedom to Marry, or any of the other groups working hard to push back against this bullshit.
4. Sarah Palin? I mean... really?! Uh, that's my whole point for this one.
