You all got porn on your televisions. I? Got a roomful of disgruntled thirtysomething straight men and some really old sheet music. NOT A FAIR TRADE, WORLD.

...and that's all I'm going to say about that.

***

Apparently my background check cleared, because they want to know if I can start on Monday instead of Wednesday. I have to decide whether or not I want to -- I'm not hurting for cash, and the extra two days would be nice to finish up the things around the house I thought I'd get done by now. But on the other hand, the first few days are all going to be orientation and setup and whatnot anyway, so wouldn't I like to get that all out of the way? Decisions, decisions.

Dropped off my car this afternoon for oil change and service, and expected to have it back by tonight, but apparently they're keeping it overnight? Without telling me. Hmm. I did say I was flexible on pickup time. I wonder if they interpreted that to mean pickup "day" as well?

The time has come for me to just buckle down and do the matchups for [livejournal.com profile] remixredux. After I get some sleep.

Hey, I got a splitting headache, a director who won't get off the damn headseat and let her SM run cues, a theater full of middle schoolers and ten crotchety old wireless mics last night. DON'T COMPLAIN.

Ouch. My apologies. Our director-SM relationship is awesome, so I forget that sometimes these things don't work super-well.

But you got paid!

Yes I did! Although the check is still in my wallet uncashed, because I got whacked over the head by the housecleaning fairy's wand yesterday, and left it too long to stop and the bank on the way to t'parent's for dinner.

...I also got to roam all over the stage amplified-ly singing songs from Guys and Dolls and Avenue Q (with, um, certain bits redacted due to middle schoolers) to do mic checks. T'brother and I managed a passable duet of the entirety of "It Sucks To Be Me," barring the multipart harmony. :D

AHAHAHAHAHAHA. FTW!

Also: I suspect I will not be mic'ed -- even though I'm pretty much the ensemble soloist, my solos are high and therefore audible regardless. This makes me simultaneously sad (no mic!) and happy (no spirit gum!).

"So why/don't I have a boyfriend?/[dramatic pause]/It sucks to be me!"

Not being mic'ed if you've got the voice for it = priceless. TRUST ME. OMG such annoying little pieces of crap electronics. I simultaneously can't wait for and dread the year that Elena finally does what she's been threatening and scrapes together the budget to upgrade (from the lavs) to halos, because invariably we wind up swapping mics from kid to kid mid-show. (This year: SIX MICS moving on a scene change that consisted of pulling three pieces of furniture off the apron and opening the traveler on a pre-set. Add in squirrelly middle schoolers for EXTRA BONUS FUN.)

AWESOME.

I guess I'm just nervous because I don't know the space -- my voice is big, but is it big enough to go over the whole orchestra in the space? I don't know. Have you ever been in the Stern?

Also: man, y'all are just on top of things! As for me, I have discovered I have a minimum of 10 costume changes. Ensemble FTW! I get to be four characters, and have to go back and forth between them rather quickly.

The best part was that, round about beer o'clock Saturday night, it occurred to us that we could have just taped the god-mics to the Cabinet table and only swapped one, for FDR. D'oh!

It's always after-the-fact, ain't it? Ahh, well.

(And no, I've never been in the Stern. I'm not sure how I managed that, either. :D)

HEE. It's true! Which is why I'm not starting until Wednesday :D The woman was a bit put-out by that, but hey, I need my final days of slacking, and I really do have some errands that will be easier during the week when things are, you know, OPEN.

I've been way behind on journal updates thanks to a Prison Break comm event that I ran the last two weeks.

So your news today, which really seems to say "new job! new job!", is of the utmost wonderfulness to me. ♥
