I woke up on a pillow that was not in its pillowcase.

Now you have to understand that for me, that's the equivalent of, say, leaving the front door open all night. It's just something that's Not Done. The funny thing is, I remember going to sleep on *both* of my pillows, and both had their cases. I looked around for the other pillow and it was down by my feet. I had to actively search for the case, but it turned up on the bed, under the covers, *folded in thirds, then folded in half*. I have examined it for anything that may have caused me to ditch it in the night, but...

People, what would cause me to, as I'm sleeping, decide two pillows were too much, throw one down to my feet, strip the other of its case, fold the case *neatly* in thirds, then in half, place the case somewhere on the bed, and go to sleep on the un-cased pillow? Keep in mind that I do not drink.

Last night was good times -- baked pasta, homemade apple pie (oh god YUM; recipe later today), an Easter egg dyeing party, and a free game of bowling. I managed to win, with 117 points. This should tell you exactly how AWFUL we all are.

And now it is the WEEKEND. Oh lordy, people, I have been looking forward to the weekend for... a long time. I didn't get a proper weekend last week, since I was having my harried visit and then flying back here, so I'm planning to properly relax this weekend -- by which I mean I'm going right back to sleep.

As soon as my pillow is re-cased.

So you might laugh at the title, but it's true -- my mom sent me this pie recipe. Here's the thing about the pie: the apples you use matter a LOT. Mom makes it with Winesap, Macintosh, and Golden Delicious in a mixture; she says some of them are juicier, some are firmer (to hold the shape of the pie), and some have just a bit of tartness. We ended up using Granny Smiths, as FRE had them and she said "they're the only kind you're allowed to make pie with" (she grew up on an orchard). The Granny Smiths ended up cooking down WAY more than the apple mixture I remembered, so there was this huge air pocket between the top crust and the apples, but it was good anyway.

Enjoy whenever apples come in season near you! (and sometimes when they don't -- I mean, it's not apple season here, but this was GREAT)

Anyone who's feeling nostalgic for highschoolery (and yes, I'm thinking about it even if I'm not allowing myself to write it at the moment) can go get a fix from Kassie and Brenda, who are writing their own HS AU that's Mayhem/Paddywhack, and. It's like. I'm all "adlkjfhasdfh HS AU IS MY TURF, BACK OFF BITCHES" but not really because it's Kassie and Brenda and it's hot and brilliant and it's not like I invented the concept of the HS AU or anything. But I did it first! ::tiny fist of triumph::

[The One In The Locker Room]

Dammit. The next smut was going to be in the locker room. Sigh. ::replots::

Because I have a habit of speaking too soon, I am not going to say that the full first draft of my [livejournal.com profile] smutbox story is done. Especially since I expect [livejournal.com profile] dopplegl will tell me to expand the end, which will suck. Still, it's currently about 3300 words, which is practically an encyclopedia for me. Huzzah.

After that, I watched Firefly 1.08 "Out Of Gas" because I *still* have not worked my way through the whole series yet, and I can't see the movie until I finish the series. I forgot how much I like that show -- and exactly how much I would not get involved in fandom with it. I like it too much to do that -- does that make sense? It's like I think the show was good enough on its own that I don't need to tinker with anything, and I see no real slash pairings I would consider writing. I don't even know that there are slash pairings I would consider *reading*. It's not so much that I consider it sacred or anything (I've never been a part of the Cult of Whedon), just that I find it immenseley satisfying in and of itself, and don't see any of the loose ends or tension that usually causes me to go into hyper slasher mode. (yes, I can see arguments for Mal/Simon, Mal/Jayne, Simon/Jayne, Inara/Kaylee, and Zoe/anyone, but I have no desire to read or write them) The episode was a good one, as they all have been so far, but I felt the narrative flow wasn't as clear as it could have been. That was probably intentional, so I'm not entirely sure I support that decision. Also, I [heart] Zoe and Wash like whoa. I should also reiterate, as I did to the roommate, that there isn't a single character on this show I don't love (except River, who I just kind of *like*, mostly because we haven't seen a whole lot of her as of 1.08).

Wow, that was more thinky and more meta than I intended to be just before midnight on a Saturday. I thought about watching another episode, but it's late(-ish... it is a Saturday after all) and I'm tired, so I'm going to bed. What a novel concept!

ETA: Reminder! [Birthday Echo Challenge Redux] stories should be done in a week! (um, only because that's my birthday -- if you get 'em in late, I won't mind :D)
